The Caswells

Mrs. Caswell is one of the brightest women in Minnesota. The Anoka Herald has not suffered during the absence of its editor, Lt. Caswell. Another instance of the better-half assuming the editorial chair with advantage to the ‘sheet.’

from Woodbury to Caswell

Mary Woodbury married Irving Caswell, who owned and published the Anoka Herald newspaper. Anoka also knew him as a postmaster from 1901-1904 and the Clerk of the Minnesota Supreme Court from 1909-1919. The couple had one son, whom they called Dwight.

Irving enlisted in the 14th Minnesota Regiment to serve as first lieutenant during the Spanish-American War in 1898. During his absence, Mary ran the newspaper well enough to garner the praise of the Elk River Star,
