For 25 years, the Anoka County History Center has enjoyed 2,000 square feet of display space in our gallery hall at the old city library. When the City of Anoka asked us to move so they could redevelop the land, the ACHS Board of Directors knew our long history of locally and nationally recognized exhibits would need to pause.
As we settle into our new workspace at Ticknor Hill and adapt to operating a bed and breakfast to earn revenue to pay the mortgage, please enjoy these online exhibits we have curated. Our strategic plan does include innovative displays.
Museums have long accepted one correct way of operating — we hold the “stuff,” and you come see the “stuff” in an exhibit hall when we say so. This is safe, controlled, and tried and true.
What if we created a “dispersal model” instead? What if we looked around the County and identified locations where people spend time: schools, coffee shops, churches, parks, the sports center…and brought the exhibits there? If not the actual artifact, at least a graphic banner and a few interesting words. What if we came to you instead?
