Anoka County Historical Society

Today the Cities of Fridley and Columbia Heights hold a geographical secret - they were once part of their own County, separate from Anoka County. Join Rob Zelenak from the Fridley Historical Society as he shares the story of Manomin, Minnesota’s Lost County. How it came to be, and why it disappeared from the maps after just 12 short years.

Hosts Rebecca Desens, ACHS Executive Director, and Sara Given, ACHS Volunteer Coordinator

Fridley Historical Society

The Fridley Historical Society was founded in 1985 for the purpose of saving Fridley District 23 School from demolition. This historic schoolhouse is located adjacent to Hayes Elementary School. As a non-profit organization that receives no public funding, the maintenance and operation of the museum and Society operations are funded primarily through memberships and local fund raisers.

Keep an eye out for their events throughout the year that showcase the history of Fridley, and stop by their museum to walk through the exhibit spaces.
