Anoka County Fair

In 2016 we created an episode of “It’s Your History” with QCTV. In that episode, first, Executive Director of the Anoka County Historical Society, Rebecca Ebnet-Mavencamp, tells us about the history of fairs in general, leading up to the history of our own Anoka County Fair. Then, she interviews Anoka County Fair Boardmembers Tammy Fossum, Bob Fossum, and Ray Hyovalti. After that, we’ll hear from high school senior and lifelong 4-H member Jordan Paulus, as well as Anoka County 4-H Program Coordinator Anna Gilbertson, and they’ll tell us about the historical role of 4-H with the Anoka County Fair. Finally, husband and wife co-authors, Carol Kratz and Drake Hokanson, tell us about their book chronicling their travels to county fairs across the country. So grab a corn dog and some cotton candy and get ready to dive into the history of county fairs!

Library Minute

It’s hard to believe the first half of summer is coming to an end! Even though the store aisles have filled with back-to-school supplies, there’s still plenty of summer fun to be had. This episode’s Library Minute is dedicated to highlighting an upcoming library program for adults called Greek Music of the Spheres.

This presentation, which will be led by Anoka-Ramsey Community College music faculty, will reveal how ancient Greece, music, mathematics, and astronomy all converge in fascinating ways. If you want a little taste of what the program will present, check out the short film Music of the Spheres on Kanopy. Anoka County residents with a library card can access Kanopy via anokacountylibrary.org and clicking on Movies & Music in the Books & More menu option.

Greek Music of the Spheres will take place on Monday, August 5th at the Crooked Lake Library.  Register for the program on the library’s website.
