Anoka Post Office

In 2016, we partnered with QCTV for an episode of It’s Your History, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Old Post Office, and the First Issue of an official Jack-o-lantern stamp.

In this episode we learn about the historic Anoka post office that served as the main hub for all post in Anoka and surrounding area for years, and is now a center for commerce. First, Executive Director of the Anoka County Historical Society, Rebecca Ebnet-Mavencamp, gives us a historic narrative about the postal service in Anoka of yesteryear. Then, we are treated to a study in pictures of the construction of the historic site. After that, Rebecca interviews a few people who both patronized and served in the old post office. Then, finally, we meet with the current Postmaster of the current Anoka post office – who lets us know how the postal service has changed over the years, as well a woman who has, and continues to own and operate a retail business inside the historic building, and has for over ten years. So check your zip code and don’t forget to lick your stamps as we review the history of the place that, at one time, connected Anoka to the rest of the wide world!
